My Transformation Journey

I’ve done lots of reflection lately on my transformation journey. Always in search of that mindset of feeling satisfied and fulfilled with where I’m at. Becoming an executive/life coach has really helped me to look at some things in the past and what I did and didn’t get out of them. So many learnings for me.

In 2000 I dreamed of looking super-fit and having 6-pack abs and going to Greece and for once being able to take my shirt off on the beach and feel proud.

My journey of weight loss and transformation took me through many things including marathons and Ironman Triathlons. It eventually led me to 2014 and bodybuilding competitions.

The 1.5 years of prep was challenging and taught me a lot about what I was made of…I realized the level of motivation, resiliency and perseverance I was capable of. I couldn’t wait to go to Greece 3 weeks after competing…so that for the first time in 18 trips to Greece…I could take my shirt off at the beach and feel proud of myself.

The competitions went great…even won some awards…but after it was “what now?”
I was on my way to Greece for my dream trip 3 weeks later…where I would finally have “that day” at the beach that I dreamed off. In a cruel twist of fate…as I was en route in TO airport I had some unexpected health emergency and ended up in an ambulance on the way to the ER rather than on the plane to Greece…..it never did happen that summer.

Since 2014 there have been many ups and downs. I discovered that competing in BB had many positives but also lots of negatives. For me…my body image issues never really did go away. Post competition left me without a plan and having unrealistic expectations of how I would look every day. Competing in BB is only a snapshot in time of what you can achieve. It’s NOT every day life! It did not provide the level of LASTING fulfillment that I was looking for.

My body image challenges are still a work in progress…I realize I’m human and can also be proud of where I’m at today. I WILL have that day at the beach…when the time is right. For now I can look at my 2019 pic and be proud of how far I’ve come and continue on with my journey….looking for that balance of being happy but not needing to go to the extreme…whatever that means.

Never stop working on becoming a better version of yourself. Always search for a way to stay in a positive mindset as much as possible and try not to strive for perfection.

Through sharing my personal experiences with my coaching clients and people in general I hope to portray that you should never judge a book by it’s cover. We all have those internal things that we’re dealing with…the key is to find a way to learn from them, to grow and kick ass in life going forward!
